Running and Walking Friends

There are those days when you just don’t feel like running or walking. It may be hot and humid outside, you just don’t feel right, or you have too many other things to do.

I was having one of those days last week and I just kept putting off going for a run.
I sat down at my computer to answer a few e-mails and while I worked, I listened to songs from my iPod. For those without an iPod, you keep the contents of your iPod on your computer and can listen to and manage the contents.

Latest
Enter the Haggis CD
Nikelback
Ray Davies of the Kinks

While I was listening, one power song after another played. A power song is one that is really upbeat and gets you off your feet to do something, like run or walk.

“Stand” by Blues Traveler, “The Hard Way” by The Kinks, “Otherside” by Red Hot Chili Peppers, “Money Bought” by Nikelback, and “The Litter and the Leaves” by Enter the Haggis come blaring out of my speakers. Next thing you know, I am lacing up my running shoes and headed out the door.

It got me to thinking, what is your Power Song that gets you pumped up to hit the pavement? I started a thread on our message board where you can post your favorite power song. I’ll try to include as many as I can in next week’s newsletter.

Meet Boston Billy at Fleet Feet Sports on July 9

Boston Billy

Bill Rodgers, who made a living winning the Boston and New York Marathons, will be making a special appearance at Fleet Feet Sports on Thursday July 9th from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. His appearance will also coincide with the start of our annual Summer Tent Sale which will be on July 9, 10 and 11.

Bill will be selling and signing copies of his books and posters, and of course will have a friendly word for everyone he meets. Bring your camera to take a photo with Bill.

The Fleet Feet Sports Tent Sale will be going on, and will feature great deals on running shoes, clothing and accessories.

Last Chance to save $50 on Garmin 405 GPS

Garmin 405 GPS

It is the final few days to get the Garmin $50 rebate when you purchase a Garmin 405 at Fleet Feet Sports. The rebate offer ends on June 30th, which is this Tuesday.

This is a great price on the best running GPS to come along in a long time. Many of us at the shop have been running with the 405 for some time, and have found it to have great GPS reception, even in wooded areas. The size is no different than most running watches, and there are features galore.

Also, when you buy a Garmin 405 GPS from Fleet Feet Sports, you can attend one of our quarterly tech nights. These sessions will feature our staff members who can answer questions regarding Garmin products, heart rate monitors and running watches.

And the deal gets even better, because Fleet Feet Sports Personal Rewards members get a $25 Post Card from us each time they spend $250 in the store.

Hurry in before the close of business on Tuesday.

Introducing the New Brooks Hot Feet Summer Training Series

hotfeet image

The new Brooks Hot Feet Training Runs are now combining two fun group runs into one.

brooksFleet Feet Sports will still be having the ever popular 12-week program designed to help those training for a fall marathon, but participants will now also have the option to run a shorter course if they desire.

For those who choose the short course, they will have the option to run anywhere from 3-8 miles, while the individuals training for a marathon will have a schedule of longer distances as they have in the past.

The program starts on July 19th and ends on October 4th, 2009. The runs start at 7:30 a.m. from the Boat House at Green Lakes State Park. There will also be water stops along the course for everyone to refuel.

green lakes trailA combination of smooth trails, lake trails and low-traffic roads are used each week. This is a free program and you can come any week you wish. Participants can run any distance they wan,t and they can adjust the scheduled weekly distance to meet their training schedule. In 2008, over 150 runners used the Fleet Feet Sports Marathon Training Program to help them achieve their goals. Now we are adding the option of a shorter run, so there is no reason to miss out!

In addition to the benefit of having a group, the Brooks Hot Feet Training Program will feature an incentive system in which participants are entered into a raffle each time they run. The more a person shows up, the more times they are entered into the raffle. Winners will be pulled twice throughout the program and will include Brooks shoes and other Brooks running gear. We will also provide water and Gatorade each week for runners to enjoy.

If you want to win prizes, stay active and meet new people, come join Fleet Feet Sports on Sunday mornings at Green Lakes. If you have questions about the Brooks Hot Feet Training Program, please contact Ken Hammond at 315-446-1444.
