Running and Walking Friends:
Early 2006 brings back an event that got off to a great start last year, and a newcomer event in one of the most historic parts of Syracuse .

The Chilly Chili 5k Run/Walk will be held in Cazenovia on Saturday February 11. Last year this first year event attracted just short of 500 participants. There is a great post race party featuring a Chili Cook-off with 10 of Cazenovia's finest restaurants, live music, beer from Cooperstown Brewing and Chili for everyone! Sign up online here.

Also new this year is Tipp Hill 4 Mile Shamrock Run/Walk, which will be held in the historic Tipperary Hill Neighborhood of Syracuse. A 4-mile clover like course has been designed that will take in the major sights of Tipp Hill, including the only traffic light in the country where the green light is on top to celebrate Irish heritage. The race will be held on Saturday March 11 th and will kick off the St. Patrick's Day Holiday . Registration information will be available soon.

Collins Ranked in National Running Rankings by Running USA |
|
The new Runner Rankings compiled and produced by Running USA and Active Sports Technologies provide many interesting ways of viewing and comparing the Top Road Runners of 2005. The rankings, which can be found at www.runningusa.org , provide recognition for all types of runners from joggers to professional athletes. Local stand out runner Kevin Collins finds himself ranked at number 5 nationally among men for his many race performances.
The system combines an algorithm for standardizing performances of different distances and course difficulty with age-graded factors, thus allowing comparisons across gender, age groups and year. A maximum of 12 races are used to calculate the rankings.

Basil Honikman, Executive Director of Running USA, is pleased with the results of the first full year of the new rankings system. "This system was designed to encourage runners of all abilities as well as publicize performances by the top professionals as well as the best athletes in each city, state and age group so that the public can become fans. We are nearing the end of our beta testing period and welcome any comments that people may have about the rankings process or purpose."
