Week 7 – October 24, 2011

Another chilly morning awaited our group this past Saturday at Onondaga Lake Park. All bundled up with long sleeve jackets, hats & mittens we all convened at the Fleet Feet tent and awaited our instruction from Coach Jessica.

Since last week’s long interval was a 6 minute increase, most of us thought for sure the increase would not be that large again. Nope, we weren’t that lucky. Another 6 minute interval increase. Ugh! To think back to Week 2 and we were complaining about the 1 minute increase seemed laughable right then. After a few moans & groans, we started off. After our 5 minute warm-up was done, we started the long interval. Music on, slowly trudging our way along, we all surprised ourselves and actually finished the interval. The sense of accomplishment was undeniable. There were lots of high-five’s and smiles as each and every one of us celebrated our achievement. We still had three more short intervals to go, but knowing how long we had just run, there was no stopping us now.

One of the other girls in the group had her silly bands on (suggestion from Week 2 blog) and she was the official “interval keeper”. Coach Jessica was of course the official time keeper and alternated running between the faster and slower runners in the group. While running with me, she let me in on one of her secrets. She always ends her runs with the song, “Another One Bites The Dust.” Boy was that a perfect song to end Saturday’s run with.
