You may have heard about or experienced someone paying for the next customer in line at your local coffee shop. While it’s a relatively small monetary amount, the gesture is significant and is usually enough to spark a chain of similar actions in the checkout line and beyond. Paying it forward is more than a donation, it’s a gesture of kindness to a stranger where there are no rewards or accolades to be gained.
Recently, I was witness to this selfless act within our No Boundaries 5K Training Program. At the end of the fall 2016 session, a generous team member wanted to give back in a way that would allow others to experience the joys and successes of this training group. He paid the fee for two future No Boundaries participants. That allowed us to award two scholarships to the Winter 2016-2017 No Boundaries Program.
The recipients were beyond grateful, offering thank-you notes and excitement for the daunting winter training session. When one of the scholarship recipients found that she was not able to attend many of the practices, she decided to pay it forward and provide an entry into the spring program for another participant to enjoy!
The encouragement and support of those in the Fleet Feet Training family is second to none. We have been inspired time and again by the generous actions of our participants and decided to offer a second scholarship opportunity for those interested in the spring 2017 session of No Boundaries, which begins at the end of March.
For those interested in any of the various training levels available within our No Boundaries 5K Training Program, check out the websites below to learn more and to submit a scholarship application. Applications will be accepted through Wednesday, March 1 and we will announce the two scholarship recipients in the Fleet Feet newsletter on Monday, March 6.
Keep moving forward, Syracuse. Thanks for the inspiration!
