We’re beyond the one-month mark of any New Year’s Resolutions. By now, statistics tell us that nearly 80 percent of us will have fallen off the bandwagon by now.
What stuck? What didn’t? Why? These are questions to ask yourself in order to start narrowing down the reasons why you hit some goals and not others. And once you’ve found what works for you, you can implement these tactics or actions to help you achieve other goals… particularly fitness goals.
According to Active.com, two of the most promising methods for achieving consistency in fitness and health changes are:
-
Set a concrete, achievable goal such as run a marathon or a local (and my personal) favorite race -- The Dunn Tire Mountain Goat.
-
Go forth with a group of supportive people working toward the same goal, like starting a neighborhood running group or joining a training program.
This Wednesday, Feb. 7 marks the beginning of Fleet Feet Sports, Syracuse’s Spring Marathon program. Athletes will join a group of more than 100 others (some new, some veteran) already meeting every Wednesday night and Sunday morning to power through doable speed work and crank out gradually increasing long runs.
There is strength in numbers, physically, mentally and most importantly emotionally. And power in dreaming big with a plan.
If a marathon doesn’t appeal to you, we’ll be starting Mountain Goat and Spring Half Marathon Training at the end of the month.
